Welcome to Fibromyalgia Support and Information Group
We a sounding board where you can share your frustrations with trying to cope with this dreaded disease. We ask that you keep this board clean in your responses as children may also use this board. Fibromyalgia is a neurlogical and most likely a genetic disease where stress will trigger the nervous system with increased adrenaline with that fight or flight mode that never goes away. Constant barrage of pain firings in the brain will burn off the dopamine hormones that reduce the sensation of pain. Once the hormones are gone, the pain becomes intense and then the hippocampus becomes under fire and begins to shring causing a condition typically known as fibrofog. When a sufferer sleeps at night, the fourth stage of sleep is critical because there the hormones burned off during the day are regenerated. But for the fibro sufferer, it is difficult to get to that stage. The sufferer will skip right from the third stage into the REM cycle and the body will not get to regenerate the hormones. This continued cycle eventually affects the muscles, tendons, and other soft fiber tissues of the body. Light exercise will help keep the muscles from stiffening up. This best I have found is aqua aerobics in 98 degree water. Heat will relax the muscles and then exercise will help strengthen them. There are many herbal supplements on the market that can help a fibromyalgia patient. And there are many treatments available that will help as well. The whole essential part of fighting fibromyalgia is to keep moving on your good days and keep warm and rest on your bad days. Group Stats
